STOTT PILATES® Full Rehabilitation Certified Instructor
Studio Owner, Dena Beach has been a licensed Physical Therapist since 1991 and a STOTT PILATES® Rehabilitation: Reformer & Mat Level 1 (Spinal, Pelvic and Scapular Stabilization) Certified Instructor since 02/2006. In 05/2007, she became a STOTT PILATES® Rehabilitation: Reformer & Mat Level 2 (Peripheral Joint Stabilization) Certified Instructor. Dena became a STOTT PILATES® Rehabilitation: Cadillac, Chair and Barrels Level 1 (Spinal, Pelvic and Scapular Stabilization) & Level 2 (Peripheral Joint Stabilization) Certified Instructor on 2/11/09 and received her STOTT PILATES® Full Rehabilitation Certification on 02/15/2009. The requirements to receive the extensive STOTT PILATES® Full Rehabilitation Certification include a cumulative 114 hours of instruction and supervised teaching, 44 hours observation, 65 hours physical review, and 60 hours practice teaching. All of Dena’s instruction and supervised teaching was performed by STOTT PILATES® Rehabilitation Master Instructor Trainer Melanie Byford-Young, co-owner of Pacific Northwest Pilates in Portland, OR. Dena began studying the Pilates method in 2006 when trying to find alternative options to address her own chronic low back pain that was not resolving from traditional Physical Therapy methods.
In 2008, Dena completed the PiYo™ Certification, Level 1 from Powder Blue Productions. In 08/2011, Dena completed the STOTT PILATES® Injuries and Special Populations Certification under the instruction of STOTT PILATES® Rehabilitation Master Instructor Trainer Melanie Byford-Young. Dena has been trained in Merrithew® Fascial Movement by completing the Merrithew® Fascial Movement Foundation Course, Level 1 in 2017. Dena was recognized by Merrithew® as a Group Mat Specialist in 05/2021, an Athletic Conditioning Specialist in 12/2021 and a Dance Specialist in 09/2024. STOTT PILATES® Certified Instructors are required to complete 6 hours of continuing education annually to maintain their certification. Dena graduated from Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology in 1989 and from Texas Tech University Health Science Center in Lubbock, Texas in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy. She has been a licensed Physical Therapist in Utah (1991 – 2002), Hawaii (2002 – 2022), Arkansas (2022 – 2024) and now Florida. Since her STOTT PILATES® Rehab Certification in 2006, she has been incorporating pilates concepts into her physical therapy practice.
In March 2012, Dena opened Rehab Pilates in Kailua-Kona, HI a home based studio that offered therapeutic pilates/fitness based exercise sessions for private or duet clients. It grew over the next 10 years into a very busy, in demand professional pilates studio known for its expertise in tailoring each session to the personal needs of each client. Dena left Hawaii in May 2022.
